What are your favorite Greek myths?

I was always fascinated by the myth of Theseus defeating the Minotaur with the help of Ariadne, yet I never knew what happened next. This book was beautifully written, and I appreciated the feminist themes as I got to explore Ariadne's story further. But it was definitely tough to read as a newly postpartum mom. My heart ached for Ariadne and her younger sister Phaedra, especially as they went through their different motherhood journeys. Then the end of the book just broke me. I wasn't familiar with the myth of Dionysus making the Argive women go mad and kill their own babies, which turned out to be a pivotal part of this novel. 😭

I finished The Queen of Nothing and can now say this series is one of my all-time favorites! 😍 I couldn't put this final book down, and I loved the ending. I thought each character got exactly what they deserved, for better or worse. I'll definitely be reading more books by Holly Black.

I recently finished volume 1 of Wires and Nerve by Marissa Meyer, and now I'm reading volume 2. It's been fun returning to The Lunar Chronicles in a visual medium! 🌙

I just finished The Wicked King, and I'm continuing to love this series! Jude is a complex, flawed protagonist who I can't help rooting for, even when I question her decisions. I also appreciate the side characters, especially her family. Moving on to book 3! 🤗

Do you like reading prequels? 📖 I enjoy prequels when they provide interesting background about the setting and tell a complete story on their own, so I really enjoyed The Kill Order. Almost none of the characters from The Kill Order were featured in the main Maze Runner books, but it showed the immediate aftermath of the sun flares and the sickness that ravaged the remaining population. The book had me at the edge of my seat wondering what would happen to these unfamiliar characters in a post apocalyptic world. Now I'm reading The Fever Code, which focuses more specifically on the Maze Runner protagonist Thomas's backstory as a child. I enjoyed the sense of mystery in The Maze Runner and Thomas having to grapple with not remembering his past, so I'm actually not liking The Fever Code very much. I'm still going to keep reading to see if it becomes more interesting though!

Variation is the first audiobook I've finished this year, and it's another 5-star read for me. 🩰 After reading Fourth Wing, I was wanting to check out one of Rebecca Yarros's contemporary romances. I loved everything about Variation: the portrayal of the ballet world, the family drama, the second-chance romance, the summer beach town vibes, and the secrets revealed in the plot twists. I recently took a ballet class for the first time in a while, and I'm hoping to build up my strength to take it again this summer. Postpartum workouts are tough, but I do feel a little stronger every day! 🤗

Only 3 weeks until Christmas, so I'm back with another indie book recommendation! I read Kentree's Stolen Souls on my Kindle back in the spring and loved it. I was super excited when the author recently sent me a paperback copy of the book. I highly recommend it if you're a fan of fantasy and dark academia. How many books have you read so far this year? 📚 I've read 36 books, and my goal for the year is 52 books. I'm not sure that I'll reach my goal, but I'm going to see what books I can manage to squeeze in before my baby girl is born in a couple months. Third trimester pregnancy exhaustion is starting to hit me as I do my best to balance work, parenting, and taking care of myself, but at least I always have audiobooks! I'm currently listening to Wool, and I'm slowly making progress reading The Iron Vow. 😊
